More Than Just Plants: Botanical Gardens Are an Untapped Source of Fungal Diversity

چکیده
Botanical gardens have extensive spatial databases of their plant specimens; however, the fungi occurring in them are generally unstudied. gardens, with great diversity, undoubtedly harbor a wide range symbiotic fungi, including those that plant-pathogenic. One such group is powdery mildews (Erysiphaceae). The among most prevalent and economically important pathogens world, an estimated 906 species 19 genera. They known to infect more than 10,000 flowering plants although some occur across hosts, many associated specific plants. Powdery undergone long dynamic coevolution host plants, resulting co-speciation. provide living laboratory which study these leading wealth undiscovered fungal diversity. Furthermore, monitoring botanical has led ecological findings related sciences protection. Between 2018 2022, collaborative citizen science project was established 10 United States Mexico. A total 300 mildew specimens were collected on 220 different taxa. We sequenced entire internal transcribed spacer (ITS) large subunit (LSU) rDNA loci phylogenetically morphologically analyzed collections revealing 130 species, 31 likely unknown science. This research highlights importance as reservoir Future will further elucidate coevolutionary relationship between hosts extend current evaluate other gardens.

Satellite DNA in Plants: More than Just Rubbish.
For decades, satellite DNAs have been the hidden part of genomes. Initially considered as junk DNA, there is currently an increasing appreciation of the functional significance of satellite DNA repeats and of their sequences. Satellite DNA families accumulate in the heterochromatin in different parts of the eukaryotic chromosomes, mainly in pericentromeric and subtelomeric regions, but they als...
متن کاملDesigned Natural Spaces: Informal Gardens Are Perceived to Be More Restorative than Formal Gardens
Experimental research shows that there are perceived and actual benefits to spending time in natural spaces compared to urban spaces, such as reduced cognitive fatigue, improved mood, and reduced stress. Whereas past research has focused primarily on distinguishing between distinct categories of spaces (i.e., nature vs. urban), less is known about variability in perceived restorative potential ...

The form and function of the heart is determined by the dynamic interaction of both intra and extracellular signals. During normal growth of the neonatal heart myocytes undergo hypertrophy in response to variety of signals including changes in blood pressure1–3. The number of fibroblasts also increase and the collagenous connective tissue is formed.4,7,8 The coordination of these postnatal sign...

Human scabies, caused by skin infestation with the arthropod mite, Sarcoptes scabiei, typically results in a papular, intensely pruritic eruption involving the interdigital spaces, and flexure creases. Recent research has led to a reassessment of the morbidity attributable to this parasite in endemic communities, particularly resulting from secondary skin sepsis and postinfective complications ...
